EsNtion Rocked Carnaval - New Reviews!

Give yourself a minute to read ths one. I promise that 90% of the information is useful and the other 10% is fun. I had the pleasure of attending this year's Carnaval in San Francisco. The 3 day event featured 4 EsNtion artists; Lefty Perez, Frankely, Batista and Dino Latino. DJ Papito Red was unable to attend at the last moment. Carnaval draws around half a million people over its 3 day run. While I didn't get the chance to meet each one individually, I did make a lot of new friends there.

I learned several things at this year's festival. First, I am the worst photographer on the planet. Bar none. Second, there are thousands of people out there clamoring for EsNtion music. That last part is the important part.

The thing that held my attention the most was the fact that people were singing along with each artist. When Frankely did Como Loco, the chorus sounded like it was echoing in a canyon. He suddenly had a few hundred back up singers and they knew the words as well as he did. When Batista did Dame tu Amor (a bachata remake of the Bee Gee's classic How Deep is Your Love), the ladies in front of me swooned to every syllable. When Lefty, backed by the amazing Julio Brava Orquestra, did his spooky dance for his classic hit, Mentiras, the audience did it right along with him. If you don't know what a spooky dance is, I strongly suggest that you catch Lefty in concert. There is no good way to describe it but there are hundreds of good ways to enjoy it.

All of the tropical music shows were simulcast on KPFA-FM and some of their sister stations. It worked out that most of the State of California was listening to EsNtion music for a few hours on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. By the way, when you click on the link immediately below, take note of the picture on the lower right hand corner of the first page. Within seconds after Lefty finished Mentiras, the audience started getting restless. One guy even growled at me. But, as soon as the next song started, back they went to laughing and dancing and singing along. It seems that they takeSalsa Interruptus very seriously in San Francisco, as evidenced by the photo. Dino Latino tore up the Univision stage for the La Kalle radio celebration of Reggaeton. His new single, Forever Amor, features the original singer from D'Zyre who made the song a platinum hit. We expect the same from Dino.

The link to photos I took at Carnaval - http://www.esntion.com/gall.php?dir=carnaval - there will be more posted that were taken by real photographers. I will let you know when they are up.

Before we get to the reviews, I have to take a minute to thank Dan and Tracy from Global Star Media for putting all of these shows together. Their incredible hard work and support made this an event that was enjoyed by all. We will be doing many more events with them this year, so stay tuned. I also want to thank the tremendous staff at Roccapulco in San Francisco. They hosted 3 nights of EsNtion music and had 2 completely sold out nights and one very strong one. I think they were as surprised as we were. But, with responses like that, we will be back as soon as we can.

DIXIE DANCE KINGS - Great possibilities.
MASSPOOL - Another fantastic record with a lot to offer the Crossover and progressive DJ. A must play in peak hour to get the maximum response from your crowd. Another 5 stars!
OUR MID ATLANTIC POOL (OMAP) - What a nice set of mixes. Between the Johnny Budz, Josh Harris and Georgie Porgie mixes (which are the 3 that are getting the best response) there is a mix for every crossover dancefloor.
RESOURCE RECORD POOL - Josh Harris is mixmaster with his awesome rock-infused turn. Robert G mixes come in right behind. A big winner here.

MR EGG GERM - I FOUND YOU
(available only on the Andrew Emil presents four play music release on EsNtion)

LETS DANCE IRS RECORD POOL - Very energetic track with great vocals. The Lenny Bertoldo Full Vocal Mix is my preferred mix that will definitely get the dancefloor moving.
MASSPOOL - A well done piece of music that controls your moods and dance floor, 1 truly great project!
OUR MID ATLANTIC POOL (OMAP) - We love the song but what an odd name for the artist. Many of our dj's have commented that the Lenny Bertoldo mixes are very strong and this looks to be one of our big dance records.
RESOURCE RECORD POOL - Rich multi-layered sound adds to the appeal of a very good song. Like it a lot. It will do well. Bertoldo mixes shine.

RICKETTS RECORD POOL - Keep them coming esntion, nothing but hits one after another

ANAVI w/ JERE McALLISTER - MUSTAPHA
First off, quite a few DJs seem a tad confused by the new Anavi release and its history. IT IS a remake of an old QUEEN song from the album JAZZ. It is NOT a call for Islamic revolution. It is NOT a "joy of terrorism" piece. Although, I had to admit that I enjoyed the wonderful originality of that particular author. In much the same vein as I enjoy Rush Limbaugh's views on racial equality.

Okay, here's the deal. Basically, the parts of the song that are actually in a language are a prayer for peace (some of it is just nonsense rhymes). It is primarily Farsi. Anavi is a native Serbian Christian (she speaks 7 languages) and, if you have opened a paper lately, you know that her part of the world is torn by strife between Muslims and Christians. So, it is her personal prayer for peace in her land sung in the language of her, supposed, enemies.

And I am the male choir on that track. The choir that was hired didn't show up so I sang all 6 parts. Make of that what you will.

AND HERE ARE THE REVIEWS!
LETS DANCE IRS RECORD POOL - The Klubjumpers is my pick for this fun crossover song that is working great for me at the club I work at and is sure to be a big hit with the DJ's.
OUR MID ATLANTIC POOL (OMAP) - The Lenny Bertoldo mix seems to be the safest bet to crossover while the international clubs (we have quite a few here in DC) will jump on the Phunk Generation and Original mixes. This was a pick on our last chart and should debut on next weeks chart.
CENTRAL OHIO RECORD POOL - ... so this is a fresh cut rather than a strange one. I am feeling this one, and I think it has a real future here.
HAWAII DJ ASSOCIATION - Wow! I like this international flavor, I wish I knew what she was singing. This is where notes from the record company could come in handy. I like to know what language and what she's singing about. I like the Lenny Bertoldo club mix.
MASSPOOL - This CD gives life to the dance floors! A true must play. I love the hook and baseline..."_) Good Work
